Czech Republic to provide more attack helicopters Mi-24/35 to Ukraine.

On July 7, 2023, the Czech Republic announced its intention to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities by providing Mi-24/35 attack helicopters, artillery ammunition, and F-16 simulators. The announcement was made during a meeting in Prague between Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

As part of the defense assistance package, an undisclosed amount of decommissioned attack helicopters from the Czech army will be transferred to Ukraine. Given Petr Fiala's explicit reference, it is highly likely that the Czech Republic will send a part of its Mi-24/35, if not all of them.

These decommissioned helicopters will be replaced with modern American Venom and Viper aircraft to ensure the Czech Republic maintains its military preparedness.

This recent announcement builds upon previous support provided by the Czech Republic. In May 2022, the country had already transferred two Mi-24 helicopters to Ukraine, with the possibility of additional transfers in the future.

Additionally, the Czech Republic will contribute to the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets by providing flight simulators. This gesture highlights the Czech Republic's commitment to enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities through skill development and training opportunities.

The Mi-24 Hind is a helicopter known for its technical specifications. It has a length of approximately 17.5 meters and a rotor diameter of around 17.3 meters. With a maximum takeoff weight of up to 12,000 kilograms, it can carry diverse payloads. The helicopter is powered by two Isotov TV3-117 turboshaft engines, providing a power output of 1,600 kW each. It has a top speed of 335 km/h and a range of approximately 450 kilometers. The Mi-24 can operate at a service ceiling of 4,500 meters. It accommodates a crew of two and can carry up to 1,500 kilograms of armament, including rockets, missiles, and machine guns.

Furthermore, the Czech Republic has been actively involved in providing military assistance to Ukraine during the ongoing war. A significant amount of heavy equipment and ammunition have been sent from the Czech Republic to Ukraine. This consistent effort translates to a substantial daily shipment of ammunition and various types of heavy equipment being sent from the Czech Republic to Ukraine since the war began.
