|
Nexter's famous Caesar has paved the way for truck mounted guns, and proved the concept in many operations. The next logical step was to develop the concept to make allowances for new customer requirements, such as increased payload or fully automated loading. With the introduction of Caesar 8X8 variant at DSEI 2015, in addition to the well-known Caesar 6X6, Caesar family is growing.

Fitted on a Tatra 815 chassis, Nexter's power-operated 155mm/52 calibre ordnance is fitted at the rear of the chassis. Although the vehicle showcased at DSEI is based on a Tatra chassis, the howitzer system can also be fitted on several other 8x8 chassis from i.a. Renault Trucks Defense or Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles.
The Caesar 8x8 variant shown in London features also an unarmoured 4-crew cabin, but cabin protection to Level 2A or 2B are available in option. |

|
New Caesar 8x8 variant is powered with standard Tatra air-cooled 410 hp Diesel engine. The current 6x6 Caesar can carry up to 18 projectiles, but the new 8x8 version can up to 30 155mm projectiles and modular charge systems. Nexter's Caesar is equipped with an onboard computerised fire control system and a global positioning system/inertial navigation system.
Out of more than 250 units already ordered by four countries, 180 CAESAR® 6X6 units are already in service in three countries. The French Army deployment in Afghanistan (ISAF), in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and recently in Mali during Operation Serval, illustrates the "combat proven" nature of the Caesar. |
