First Elbit Systems' ATMOS 155mm Self-Propelled Gun Arrived to Thailand | |||
According to reports on various sites, the Royal Thai Army purchased about 18 guns, with the possibility of joint production on the land of Thailand. Elbit Systems' SOLTAM ATMOS guns have arrived to the Thai army in the last months. The ATMOS is a wheeled self-propelled 155 mm howitzer with a range of 40 km. There are rumors of a joint production of Elbit Systems and the Royal Thai Army (RTA).

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Thailand ordered in 2012 six ATMOS-2000 155mm self-propelled guns to be delivered between 2014 and 2015. It seems they have effectively been delivered to Royal Thai Army. ATMOS-2000 consists of a 155mm/52 calibre howitzer mounted on a 6x6 platform. ATMOS for the Thai Army has a number of improvements. It was developed in cooperation with Thailand's military industrial complex. It's development commenced in 2012 and the new truck mounted howitzer was revealed in 2013. It is fitted with an armored cab. Many of the gun's systems are automated. It is operated by a crew of three or four men. The Thai ATMOS will may be license-produced in Thailand. By 2016 it is planned to deliver first five artillery systems of Thai A rumour said “18 systems will be shipped to Thailand ” and “the assembly will be done in the Army Weapon factory ”, but there is no confirmation about that. In 2006, Thailand purchased some wheeled self-propelled guns to France. Six CAESAR 6x6 155mm had been bought at that time. |
