Lithuania might show interest for KMW's PzH 2000 155 mm self-propelled howitzer
Lithuania could have made a decision to clear the dust from the shelved plans to introduce heavy self propelled artillery in its defense capabilities. Head of the Lithuanian army is reported to have announced that plans have been confirmed to acquire some German-made PzH 2000 155 mm self-propelled howitzers as soon as possible.

With 20 to 30% increase in Lituanian defense budget the idea seems doable as Lithuania already seems to have received a very good proposal from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.

"Military science as well as modern day conflicts tell us, that artillery support - one of the key elements of the battle. Thus it may be presumed, that the importance of this capability is increasing. In our 2015-2020 plan a project has been confirmed to acquire self propelled howitzers during 2016-2019. Operational requirements are ready and being discussed with colleagues from Estonia. I believe, that in relation with today's unstable situation and increased defense budget we have no time to wait for 2016." said Lithuania's commander of the armed forces gen. maj. J.V.Zukas on social medias.

We need to evaluate current proposals ASAP, so that maneuver units of Lithuanian army could have artillery support sooner than later", gen. maj. J. V. Zukas said.

The PzH 2000 is a 155mm self-propelled howiter designed, developped and manufactured by the German Company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) together with Rheinmetall Defence.

The main armament consists of a Rheinmetall 155mm 52 cal. gun with a chromium-plated barrel and semi-automatic lifting breech block with integrated 32-round standard primer magazine. The 30 km range requirement with NATO standard shells and the 40 km requirement with base-bleed shells has been met with the development of a new 155 mm 52 cal barrel.

The Pzh 2000 is fitted with a panoramic day/night sight with laser range-finder and a day/night direct fire sight. The PzH 2000 is the only 155 mm 52 cal artillery weapons system to feature a fire control computer with integrated NABK (NATO Artillery Ballistic Kernel) for autonomous computation of firing commands.
