Rosoboronexport, the Russian state agency for export of armament will supply S-400 air defense missile systems to China without delays, Anatoly Isaikin, Rosoboronexport Director General, confidently stated today, October 27, 2015. According to the Time of India, China has ordered no fewer than six battalions of S-400 with a total value US$ 3 billion. The first S-400 systems for China are scheduled for delivery in 2017.

"I’m absolutely confident we’ll fulfill our obligations within the timeframe established by the contract," he said, answering a question at the briefing to the journalists.
Also, Isaikin noted that many countries have applied for S-400, but the priority will be given to the Russian army. As early as April this year, Isaikin declared that the S-400 supply contract with China had been signed. However, back then the head of Rosoboronexport did not disclose the details of the contract, its value, delivery dates and the number of systems. He only noted that "China was indeed the first buyer of this newest Russian air defense system, which testifies to the strategic level of our relationship." Also in April Isaikin explained that other counties too are interested in the S-400 Triumph system but the Almaz-Antey Concern must primarily supply it to the Russian Defense Ministry. So the delivery of those systems to several countries at a time will be a difficult choice for the company despite the expanded manufacturing facilities. In early October India joined those wishing to acquire S-400. According to the Times of India, the Indian Air Force Command has submitted a proposal to the government committee on defense procurements to purchase around twelve S-400 systems from Russia. The proposal will be considered shortly. The publication notes that the proposal to purchase the systems was made on the eve of Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to Moscow. The S-400 Triumph SA-21 is a long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by Almaz-Antey. The S-400 Trumph is intended to engage, ECM, radar-picket, director area, reconnaissance, strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and theatre ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles and other current and future air attack assets at a maximum range of 400 km, and a altitude of up to 30 km. |
