U.S. Patriot air defense missile systems will arrive in Poland for military exercises. | |||
Polish Ministry of National Defense announced that the U.S. anti-aircraft battery "Patriot" will arrive to Poland, to take part in military exercises at the end of March, the Polish Press Agency reported Friday, March 6, 2015.

The participation of "Patriot" system in the exercises will be a part of Atlantic Resolve operation, which is aimed at increasing the military presence in the eastern flank of NATO. The exercises will last several days and include Polish air defense units. The "Patriot" battery belongs to the U.S. land forces subdivision stationing in Germany, which may consist of up to 100 soldiers and 30 vehicles. The battery had already taken part in Victory Strike military exercises held in Poland in 2000. The enforcement of Polish air defense system with short-range sets was a condition under which Poland expressed its consent to the placement of American ballistic missile defense system. Based on agreement conducted in 2008, the U.S. sets have been participating in trainings and exercises.In May 2010, Dozens of American soldiers and a battery of Patriot missiles were deployed in Poland at a military base just a few kilometers from the Russian border. Poland has also expressed interest in possibly acquiring some of the U.S. missiles in the future, though no deals have been sealed yet. |
