The system to be delivered by Harris Corp. is based on the combat-proven Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G, a software upgradeable manpack radio that delivers tactical Internet capability to the battlefield and allows users to communicate by voice, video and data for enhanced command and control and situational awareness.

"This order represents a strategic investment that will enable the Marine Corps to keep pace with rapidly changing technology," said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "Our radios meet current military requirements and are positioned for future enhancements through software upgrades. We've already incorporated the Soldier Radio Waveform into the radio, and will be adding advanced tactical satellite communications capabilities offered by the new Mobile User Objective System. This flexible approach fulfills the vision of the Joint Tactical Radio System."

The AN/PRC-117G's wideband networking capabilities give warfighters on the move and field commanders critical real-time information through a man-portable radio that is significantly smaller, lighter and more capable than legacy units.

With more than 10 times the processing power of currently fielded Type-1 manpack radios, the AN/PRC-117G provides continuous coverage in the 30 MHz to 2 GHz frequency band and represents state-of-the-art radio technology that ensures software upgradeability well into the future.
