ShieldAfrica UIGN & FRAP Special Forces and SWAT Team of Côte d'Ivoire in live demonstration.
At ShieldAfrica 2017, the International Security and Defence Exhibition that took place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire from the 24 to 26 January 2017, the UIGN (Unité d'intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) Special Forces Unit of the Côte d'Ivoire Gendarmerie and FRAP (Force de recherche et d'assistance de police) Special Forces unit of Côte d'Ivoire Police have performed live demonstration.
     
     
The UIGN is the elite law enforcement and special operations unit of the Côte d'Ivoire National Gendarmerie. Its missions include counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, surveillance of national threats, protection of government officials, and targeting organized crime.

The UIGN is around 420 people including 52 officers and 300 NCOs especially trained et equipped to perform anti-terrorist missions. Modeled on the French GIGN (Special Forces Unit of the French Gendarmerie). the main missions of the UIGN is only counter operations against terrorist threats.

The FRAP is the Special Forces unit of the Côte d'Ivoire National Police which has been primarily driven by the RAID, an elite law enforcement unit of the French National Police.

During ShieldAfrica 2017, the live demonstration of the FRAP and the UIGN of Côte d'Ivoire has showed that these units are able to perform counter-terrorist operations with a good level of training.

At ShieldAfrica 2017, many international security and defense companies have showed new products that can response to the new needs of modern police and law enforcement forces including small weapons, tactical gear and training systems.

"After three days, ShieldAfrica has been visited by more than 5,000 local and international visitors. A total of 135 companies from 64 countries have exhibited at the edition 2017 of ShieldAfrica showing latest technologies and innovation of security and defence products." said Mister Stephane Konan, General Commissioner of ShieldAfrica. "The number of official delegations also has increased significantly with 39 African countries represented at this exhibition", he added.
