The BvS10 vehicle participated in mountain trials earlier this year and is coming directly from a military parade in Austria.
BAE Systems is producing 32 BvS10 vehicles for the Austrian Army. The vehicle on the stand at Eurosatory completed winter testing as part of customer trials in the Alps earlier this year and arrives directly from a military parade in Austria. This briefing is an opportunity for an update on the Austrian BvS10 programme and the latest on the capabilities of the all-terrain, all-weather utility vehicle.
BAE Systems Hägglunds received the contract in 2016 to provide 32 of the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) variant BvS10 to the Austrians through the Swedish government under a government-to-government arrangement with deliveries scheduled for completion in 2019.
The BvS10 is a highly versatile vehicle designed with great flexibility to accommodate changing mission requirements, ranging from military combat operations to humanitarian relief, transport, rescue or cargo. The vehicle is prepared for advanced battle management and command and control solutions.
The BvS10 can operate in the toughest environments and terrain, to include mountains and snow, and has an amphibious swimming capability. Its ability to operate in mountainous terrain is of particular importance to the Austrian Army and its central role at enhancing military effectiveness in the European Union Mountain Training Warfare Initiative (EU MTI).
“We are delighted to host the Austrian BvS10 at Eurosatory this week as we continue to work closely with our customer to complete deliveries next year,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Hägglunds. “This vehicle showcases some of the latest technology advancements, developed in collaboration with the Austrian Army, to provide crews with superior performance and protection in the most challenging of terrains.”
The Austrian APC variant of the BvS10 is fitted with several specific features including a 360 degree Observation Camera System, with six Day/Infrared cameras and displays in the front and rear of the cabin for greater situational awareness. Also featured is the latest Remote Controlled Weapon Station, which can be operated by both the Gunner and the Commander, and is foldable to allow for swift transportation in the field.
The BvS10 has been deployed on operations to Afghanistan, Central Africa, the Balkans, and the Middle East. Austria will soon become BAE Systems’ fifth operator of the BvS10, joining France, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
