According to Internet military source, 120 of Steyr’s SSG bolt-action sniper rifle have been acquired and are going to be introduced to special purpose and infantry units. The weapon is chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum and fitted with a riflescope Kahles K624i.

It is a highly accurate bolt-action sniper rifle, with a folding stock and an adjustable cheek piece and butt plate. It is equipped with a bipod and a "butt spike" monopod for added stability. The pistol grip is customizable by changing the front and back straps. This sniper rifle has a Picatinny rail to the upper part for mounting optics, there is also an additional Picatinny rail in the lower part of the weapon. The rifle also features an improved muzzle brake over the SSG 04, with the ability to attach a suppressor.

The SSG M1 utilises the Safe Bolt System (SBS) action, cold hammer-forged barrels, trigger units and 10 rounds magazines. It features an aluminium alloy stock, with side-folding, fully adjustable butt and additional Picatinny rails on the forend.

The SSG M1 is based on Steyr's SBS rotary bolt action with four frontal locking lugs, arranged in pairs. It also features free-floated, cold hammer-forged heavy barrels, which are available in 508mm (.308 Winchester), 600mm (.243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum) and 690mm (.338 Lapua Magnum) lengths.

Feed is from detachable double-column box magazines, which hold ten .243 Winchester or .308 Winchester, eight .300 Winchester Magnum or six .338 Lapua Magnum rounds. The single-stage trigger is factory set for optimum performance, but can be adjusted by the user.

The Kahles K624i is precision riflescope used to shoot on long distances. The elevation adjustment has a second rotation indicator and the most refined zero stop and dial reset available. With 26 Mils of overall elevation adjustment in just two rotations and precise indexing, adjusting for extreme distances and back to zero is incredibly fast and accurate.

The Kahles K624i is fitted with an unique and innovative parallax adjustment, located under the elevation turret, superior to all other designs, for left or right handed shooters. This means less time required to engage multiple targets as you won’t have to break your shooting position.
