| 2018

The Turkish Defense Industry has successfully test-fired new generation of local-made HISAR-A short-range surface-to-air missile system developed by the Turkish Companies Aselsan and Roketsan. During the firing test, the HISAR missile was successfully fired from a land platform based on 6x6 truck chassis.

The test fire of the low-altitude missile was performed in the central province of Aksaray with attendance of Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli, the ministry said in a statement. The HISAR air defense missile system is expected to be delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces by 2020.

The HİSAR surface-to-air defense missile was developed to protect military bases, ports, facilities and troops against air-based threats as well as to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces for a low- and medium-altitude air defense system.

The HISAR missile family is able to destroy aerial targets as aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The Company Roketsan is in charge for the development of the missile, while Aselsan leads the development of the radar, control systems and combat vehicles that will carried the control and canister launchers of the missiles.

The HISAR air defense system is developed in two main variants, the HISAR-A which has a maximum range of 15 km and a maximum altitude of 5,000 m, and the HISAR-O which has a maximum range of 25 km m with a maximum altitude of 15,000 m.

The HISAR Low Altitude Air Defense Missile System project includes development and production based on two types of ground launching platform, a tracked self-propelled armored and military truck chassis mounted used to carry the launcher canisters.

The HISAR Air defense missile system mounted on a self-propelled armored vehicle will be completely autonomous by the use of 3D radar mounted on the vehicle, Electro-Optic system, command control and fire control. The other version using the ground wheeled platform, is a TEL (Transporter Erector Launcher) connected to Fire Control Unit for fire and command control vehicles.
