EDEX 2023: Ukrainian company Kvertus presents counter-drone systems.

| 2023

At the EDEX 2023 exhibition, the National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries (NAUDI) presents a variety of counter-drone systems developed by Ukrainian company Kvertus Technology. Among these systems are the AD Hunter jamming system, the AD G-6+ anti-drone gun, and the portable AD Counter FPV, which also comes in a backpack variant.

The AD Hunter, a portable Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) jamming system, has seen use within the Ukrainian military, police, and security service forces. Effectively blocking the 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and 1.6 GHz frequency ranges commonly used for remote guidance, navigation, and control of various commercially available UAVs, including those used by the Russian Armed Forces, the AD Hunter's blocking range is contingent on the distance between the UAV and its operator.

The delivery pack of the AD Hunter includes a 60-minute battery, providing extended operational capability, a UAV blocking range of 2000 meters, and a total output power of 90 W. Weighing 5.3 kg, the entire kit includes components such as the AD Hunter unit, charger, TDS, user manual, tripod, and a carrying bag for convenient transport. The operational temperature range of the system is from -20 to +60 °C.

Aerial characteristics of the AD Hunter include a UAV blocking range of up to 2,000 m, utilizing white noise interference with a normalized noise disturbance of 0.8. The aerial gain can range from 14 to 21 dB, depending on design documentation requirements. The system measures 28.5 x 25.5 x 9.5 cm, with a weight of 5.3 kg. The system's specifications also include a charger power consumption of up to 40 W, electromagnetic field immunity in compliance with standards (DSTU EN 55014-2 and DSTU EN 61000-6-14), and a warm-up time from power-on of up to 0.5 seconds.

The frequency blocking ranges of the AD Hunter cover interference channels, including GPS navigation, remote radio control, and video data transmission. The device operates within specified electromagnetic noise spectrums, with power allocations tailored to the respective interference channels.

The AD G-6+, another innovation displayed by Kvertus Technology, is an anti-drone gun designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles targeting military, civilian, and critical infrastructure facilities. Operating in the S.7-5.9 GHz frequency range, the AD G-6+ features a total output power of 90 W, ensuring increased power consumption for more effective counteraction to advanced UAVs.

Key capabilities of the AD G-6+ include a UAV blocking range of up to 3.5 km, dependent on the drone operator's location. Utilizing white noise as a form of noise interference with a normalized noise disturbance of 0.8, the gun's aerial gain can vary from 8 to 21 dB, depending on design documentation requirements. With a quick warm-up time of up to 0.5 seconds, the AD G-6+ ensures rapid deployment in critical situations.

Equipped with a 24V 6Ah rechargeable battery for 20 minutes of operation or a 24V 12Ah battery for extended usage lasting up to 40 minutes, the AD G-6+ weighs 6 kg, inclusive of the battery, and measures 76.5 x 33.5 x10 cm. Its interference channels cover remote radio control, GPS navigation, and video data transmission, neutralizing the drone's guidance, navigation, and control channels for a forced landing. The AD G-6+ anti-drone gun complies with electromagnetic field immunity standards and ensures that radio frequency emissions remain within permissible limits.

Lastly, the Kvertus AD Counter FPV, a portable system designed for jamming FPV unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), is effectively blocking the 850-940 MHz frequency ranges commonly used by FPV drones. The device weighs 5 kg and features a 360° aerial radiation pattern, with a UAV blocking range of up to 150 m.

The AD Counter FPV's equipment characteristics include white noise interference with a normalized noise disturbance of 0.8, compliance with electromagnetic field immunity standards (DSTU EN 55014-2 and DSTU EN 61000-6-14), a power consumption of up to 220 W, and a swift warm-up time of up to 0.5 seconds. With dimensions of 80 x 20 x 16 cm, the device maintains maximum levels of radio frequency emission within specified standards to minimize interference with other devices.

Additionally, there is a variant called the Kvertus AD Counter FPV Backpack, designed to be carried as a backpack for military convenience. It shares similar features with the standard version, including the 360° aerial radiation pattern, but with an increased weight of 8 kg. The UAV blocking range remains up to 150 m, and the total output power is 60 W. The backpack version comes with a removable rechargeable battery (24V 12Ah) providing up to 2 hours of battery life, making it suitable for military operations involving high mobility forces and medevac operations.

The blocking range may vary based on terrain features and the distance between the UAV and its operator. The device, with its kit and aerials, weighs 8 kg, and its dimensions are 80x12x16 cm. The benefits highlighted for both versions include portability, high battery capacity, omnidirectionality, and ease of use.
