The Serval, designed and manufactured by Nexter KNDS and Texelis (with a Texelis drive train), is designed with modularity in mind, enabling easy customization and adaptation to various mission profiles. It serves as a troop carrier, reconnaissance vehicle, command post, or fire support platform, among other roles. Two new variants are now qualified: the Artillery Observation Serval and the Casualty Evacuation (MEDEVAC) Serval.
The Serval boasts a robust armor protection system, providing a high level of defense against various threats, including small arms fire, artillery shell splinters, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) agents. Additional modular armor kits can further enhance protection.
Armed with a variety of weapon systems, including a remotely operated weapon station (RWS) capable of mounting a 12.7mm machine gun, a 40mm automatic grenade launcher, or other mission-specific weaponry, the Serval can engage and suppress enemy forces effectively. Integrated state-of-the-art command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems ensure real-time data sharing, situational awareness, and effective coordination on the battlefield.
The program places a strong emphasis on sustainability and ease of maintenance, reducing lifecycle costs and increasing operational availability. Predictive maintenance technologies and support services are integrated to minimize downtime and enhance operational readiness.
Additionally, the vehicle is future-proofed, with the capability for future upgrades and technology insertions to ensure its relevance and effectiveness as the threat landscape evolves.
