Indian tank manufacturer AVNI testing hybrid MBT made of T-90 chassis with T-72 turret.
According to a tweet posted by Vivek Singh on 30 December 2022, India's tank maker factory Avni (Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd) is testing a hybrid main battle tank made of a T-90 MBT chassis with a T-72 turret. The prototype is at the last stage of trials and would be inducted into the Indian Army soon.

The Indian Ministry of Defense PRO had posted pictures on Twitter but deleted them 25 minutes later. This puzzling association of a T-90 chassis with a T-72 turret has not been officially explained but it might originate in an assessment of the war in Ukraine: the vulnerability of old T-72 hulls leads to testing its replacement by a more resistant T-90 one. Maybe.
As commented by idrw.org, it is not the first time that India is creating a hybrid tank: nearly twenty years ago, Tank Ex MBT was created as a private venture, using the chassis of a T-72M1 Ajeya and the turret of an Arjun Mk.I. Eight prototypes were manufactured but the Indian army renounce to go further.
The tweet briefly posted by the Defence PRO mentioned the induction of this hybrid tank, maybe under the designation of T-79 Kumbhkaran, should the trials prove successful, Vivek Singh wrote.
