In May 2022, Ismail Demir, the President of SSB, the Turkish Defense Association announced the development of the new Turkish-made SIPER high-altitude long-range air defense missile system.

The SIPER project is led by Turkey's defense companies including Aselsan, Roketsan, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK)'s Defense Industries Research and Development Institute (SAGE).

In August 2022, the SIPER completed its first successful firing test hitting a target from a range of over 90 kilometers at an altitude of more than 7,925 meters. Citing information from the Turkish defense producers, the Siper will be able to rival Russia's S-400 air defense missile system.

In December 2022, the President of SSB, Ismail Demir published a video on its Twitter account showing the firing test with the SIPER missile. It hit the target with a range of over 100 kilometers, according to Turkish defense officials.

The SIPER is designed to offer a new long-range air defense missile system that can be integrated into a distributed architecture and allow the protection of strategic facilities against modern aerial threats such as aircraft, drones, and ballistic missiles.

The SİPER Block-I Missile is effective against air-breathing targets at a range of 70+km and up to an altitude of 20+km, and its range is expected to increase to 100+km (SİPER Block-II) by 2023.
