Marss unveils portable Interceptor-SR to counter drones.

During the DSEI 2023 exhibition, technology company Marss introduced its latest portable anti-drone system, the Interceptor-SR (Short Range). This new system is designed to offer enhanced protection against drones for both vehicles and personnel.

The Interceptor-SR is a more compact and lightweight version of Marss' original Interceptor, launched in 2022. Utilizing artificial intelligence, the Interceptor-SR aims to provide a cost-effective and low-collateral-damage alternative to short-range missiles for neutralizing hostile drones.

The portable system is capable of countering CAT1 drones at distances exceeding 1 km. It is designed to instill confidence in both mounted and dismounted infantry by offering reliable protection in various operational settings without the need for explosives or jet fuel.

For vehicle-mounted applications, the system can be integrated into both manned and unmanned platforms. It works in conjunction with NiDAR C2 and onboard sensors to detect and engage hostile drones. Once activated, the Interceptor-SR uses its thermal sensor to autonomously track and neutralize the target using kinetic energy.

According to MARSS, the Interceptor-SR offers a comprehensive Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (CUAS) solution, from detection to neutralization, at a cost-per-engagement that is more favorable compared to traditional weapon systems.

A version for dismounted infantry is also in the pipeline. This variant will feature a reusable, lightweight shoulder launcher equipped with an integrated thermal sight for identifying and targeting drones. The operator will have the ability to confirm successful engagements or abort missions as needed.

The Interceptor-SR complies with the UK Ministry of Defence's SAPIENT standards, ensuring interoperability with other compliant battlefield sensors and networks. The system is expected to see strong demand, particularly in light of the increasing number of drone attacks witnessed in conflicts such as the one in Ukraine.
