New HOMAR-K Polish Version of South Korean Chunmoo MLRS Passes Mobility Test.

Hanwha Aerospace Europe announced on August 3, 2023, that the HOMAR-K, the Polish variant of the South Korean K239 Chunmoo Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), has successfully undergone mobility testing. The HOMAR-K will possess the capability to launch conventional rockets as well as the tactical ballistic missile, KTSSM (Korean Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile) Block-II.

In November 2022, it was reported by the Army Recognition editorial team that the Polish Ministry of Defense had approved a deal with South Korea to acquire 218 Chunmoo K239 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System).

The Chunmoo K239 is a multi-caliber K-MLRS, produced by South Korean company Hanwha Defense. This versatile rocket launcher system can fire 130 mm, 227mm, and 239mm rockets, both non-guided and guided types.

The HOMAR-K, the Polish edition of the K239 Chunmoo, will be produced in Poland and will be built upon a Polish Jelcz 882 8x8 military truck.

Early analysis of images released on social media shows that the HOMAR-K is equipped with a launcher pod capable of firing conventional rockets or surface-to-surface tactical missiles. The Chunmoo K-MLRS features two launch pods capable of discharging different calibers of rockets, mounted on a single turntable with a full 360° traverse.

Rockets fitted into the Chunmoo system can include high-explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG), incendiary, smoke, illumination, cargo warheads with anti-tank or pre-fragmented anti-personnel sub-munitions. The system offers flexibility in rocket loadout combinations, such as pairing a container of 20x 130mm rockets with a container of 6x 239mm rockets. The 130mm rockets can reach targets up to 36 km away, while the larger 230 mm-class rockets have a range of about 80 km for the non-guided type and 160 km for the guided variant.

Additionally, the HOMAR-K can be fitted with a launcher pod capable of firing two KTSSM (Korean Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile) Block-II. Depending on the specific model, the KTSSM has a range of approximately 120 to 200 kilometers. It is equipped with a highly accurate guidance system incorporating GPS, INS (Inertial Navigation System), and terrain-matching guidance, achieving a high degree of precision with a circular error probable (CEP) of fewer than 2 meters.

This latest development marks a significant advancement in the strengthening of Poland's military capabilities and strategic partnership with South Korea.
