During this exercise, the GMD Ground System effectively utilized data from various sensors to detect and analyze the incoming IRBM threat. It then formulated a defensive strategy and launched the GMD GBI missile to successfully neutralize the threat. This test was a significant milestone in demonstrating the improved functionalities of Northrop Grumman within the GMD system, enhancing its efficiency against evolving threats.

The GMD system, with its deployment in several locations, stands as the first and only operational missile defense system designed to protect the U.S. from intermediate and long-range ballistic missile attacks.

Scott Lehr, the vice president of launch and missile defense systems at Northrop Grumman, emphasized the importance of evolving homeland defense systems in response to advancing threats. He affirmed that this successful test underscores the readiness and reliability of the MDA's comprehensive missile defense solutions.

Further information reveals that Northrop Grumman collaborates closely with The Boeing Company in the development and maintenance of the GMD, contributing to the development, integration, operation, and sustenance of both the ground systems and the interceptor boost vehicle.

With over 60 years of experience in missile defense, Northrop Grumman offers extensive missile defense capabilities, including missile interceptors, test targets, secure communications, missile warning systems, and advanced space domain awareness.
