Partner 2023: Serbia presents Obad Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
Currently at the Partner 2023 exhibition, the Military Technical Institute under the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia introduced a short-range combat multicopter named Obad. This Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is designed for rapid deployment and high mobility in military applications. Obad is engineered to engage both stationary and mobile targets, including armored and non-armored vehicles, as well as troops.

One of the features of Obad is its operational flexibility. The drone can be manually controlled or programmed for autonomous operation. This is made possible through its advanced avionics and precise Global Navigation Satellite (GNS) systems, which offer high levels of accuracy and reliability. This makes OBAD a versatile tool not only for reconnaissance missions during both day and night but also for target acquisition and destruction. The drone is also capable of multi-purpose payload integration, allowing for a variety of mission-specific equipment to be onboarded.
Obad is powered by eight Brushless DC (BLDC) motors with a combined power output of 68.8 KW. The drone employs composite two-blade, contra-rotating propellers and has an operating weight of 120 kg. It can carry a payload of up to 40 kg. In terms of speed and altitude, OBAD can cruise at 45 km/h and operate at altitudes up to 500 meters above ground level. The drone has a flight duration of 15 to 20 minutes and boasts a range exceeding 5 km. Its vertical takeoff and landing capabilities mean it can be deployed from almost any location, providing a tactical advantage in various operational scenarios.
Obad is equipped with a Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) that houses four anti-tank unguided missiles, specifically the RBR M80 64 mm, with a range of 400 meters. The RCWS has a movement range of 120 degrees in azimuth and an elevation range between -45 and +5 degrees. For targeting and control, the drone is fitted with a daylight CCD camera that features a 30x optical zoom. Additionally, it has a thermovision camera with a 4x digital zoom and a laser rangefinder with a range of up to 5 km. All these features can be remotely controlled wirelessly, adding another layer of operational flexibility.
