Polish Defense Ministry approves contracts for modernization.

On October 11, 2023, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced the approval of several contracts to modernize the Polish Armed Forces. The contracts were announced in Nowa Dęba and include the acquisition of MS-20 Daglezja-S armored vehicle-launched bridges, Zawilec command vehicles, motor vehicles for Marine Missile Units, and an annex for the supply of 120 mm ammunition for RAK self-propelled wheeled gun-mortars. At this stage, neither the financial amounts nor the number of vehicles have been disclosed.

MS-20 Daglezja-S Mobile Assault Bridge

The MS-20 Daglezja-S is a mobile assault bridge mounted on a Jelcz truck chassis and trailer. Manufactured by the Polish company OBRUM, the bridge facilitates crossing water obstacles and trenches up to 20 meters wide. It can support the weight of heavy vehicles, including third-generation main battle tanks and 155 mm self-propelled howitzers. The bridge layer takes approximately 15 minutes to deploy and can support a mass of up to 47.9 tons. Two soldiers operate the system and it has a maximum speed of 85 km/h.

Zawilec Command Vehicles

The Zawilec command vehicles are built on the KTO Rosomak platform and will be equipped with tele-informatics systems provided by GRUPA WB. These systems are intended to process classified information and meet the requirements set by the Polish Army. The Zawilec vehicles are planned for deployment at higher echelons, including brigade levels and above. They will replace the existing Kroton command vehicles, which are also built on the KTO Rosomak platform.

RAK Self-Propelled Wheeled Gun-Mortar

The RAK is a self-propelled wheeled gun mortar developed by Polish defense companies Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) and WB Electronics. The system is mounted on the Rosomak 8x8 wheeled armored chassis and features a 120 mm caliber barrel. It has a firing range of up to 10 kilometers and is equipped with a semi-automatic loading mechanism. The system has a capacity of up to 40 rounds onboard and features a fire control system for target acquisition and firing.

Marine Missile Motor Vehicles

The motor vehicles for Marine Missile Units are built on the Jelcz chassis, which is also used for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) system. The NSM is an anti-ship and land-attack missile developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. It has a range of around 200 kilometers. These vehicles are intended to be part of Poland's Coastal Missile Squadron System and enhance the unit's long-range strike capabilities.
