The Response 9MM carbine stands out with its FLEXMAG system, a feature that allows the use of various double-stack 9MM pistol magazines from Smith & Wesson and other major manufacturers. This interchangeability offers an interesting flexibility, making the weapon compatible with Glock magazines as the magazine can be easily modified.

Measuring 81.6 cm ( 32.13 inches) in length, 7 cm ( 2.75 inches) in width, and 20.3 cm (8 inches) in height, the 9MM carbine is designed for balance and maneuverability. Weighing 2.7 kg ( 94.4 ounces), it is a relatively light weapon, thanks to its polymer frame. The magazine capacity is 23 rounds.

The carbine's gas-operated action and barrel, made from 4140 CM material, ensure reliable performance and accuracy. The barrel is also equipped with a 1/2-28 thread and a thread protector.

The MSR-like controls are familiar to many shooters, easing the transition to this new platform. The flat-face trigger, known for its crisp break, enhances shooting precision, and the polymer grip ensures a comfortable and secure hold.

Atop the weapon, as is often the case now, there is a large Picatinny rail that allows shooters the freedom to equip their preferred optics for enhanced accuracy. The weapon also features a thumb safety, as its name suggests, this safety is operated by the user's thumb. This design takes into account comfort and ergonomics. It is generally designed to fit the handling of the weapon naturally.

What might define this new carbine from Smith & Wesson, and what has undoubtedly been the guiding principle of its design, is versatility, a more than important criterion today. Smith & Wesson has announced a price of $799, which is about 730€; however, the price outside the US should be a bit higher.
