The proposed package, as revealed by unnamed U.S. officials, also encompasses financial support for around 14,000 Iron Dome missiles. This would potentially allow Israel to operate, at a conservative estimate, 25 new Iron Dome batteries throughout its territory. The Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries. It is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 kilometers to 70 kilometers away, and whose trajectory would take them to populated areas.

Tom Rumbaugh, a missile defense analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, suggests that the new launchers and interceptors financed by the U.S. would likely serve as replacements for older equipment currently in use by Israel.
