Yugoimport From Serbia Plans to Produce World's Lightest MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket Vehicle.
In a groundbreaking move, Serbian defense company Yugoimport has announced its ambitious plans to develop the world's lightest Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). This innovative system will be based on the Milosh, a versatile 4x4 armored vehicle, and will be equipped with 28 launcher tubes. These tubes are designed to fire the S-8 KOM unguided rockets, known for their capability to decimate ground targets.

The Milosh, a product of the Serbian state-owned defense company Yugoimport SDPR, made its debut at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi back in February 2017. Since its introduction, the vehicle has been lauded for its adaptability, capable of being configured for a myriad of military operations. These range from artillery reconnaissance, patrol missions, border and territory control, to anti-tank and anti-terrorism operations. Its versatility also extends to surveillance, command roles, and the transportation of military personnel, including special forces units.
The MLRS adaptation of the Milosh showcases a unique design, featuring a pod of 28 launch tubes of 80 mm caliber mounted on the roof of the vehicle. These tubes are arranged in a rectangular configuration, with two layers, each containing 14 tubes. This design not only maximizes the firepower but also ensures efficient use of space.
The choice of the S-8 KOM unguided rockets for this system is noteworthy. These rockets, staples in the arsenal of many Russian-made military helicopters and aircraft, are engineered to destroy both armored and light-armored targets. Their design incorporates cutting-edge methods, including the use of ready-made rolled aluminum and a unique fin-locking mechanism. These innovations not only reduce manufacturing costs and time but also enhance the rocket's operational reliability. Furthermore, the rocket's fragmentation effect makes it lethal against enemy manpower.
Diving into the technical specifics of the S8 LC-20 rocket launcher system, it boasts an 80 mm caliber and a maximum range of 6,800 meters. The system's overall mass stands at a whopping 14,000 kg, with the superstructure alone weighing 700 kg. The launcher also features an advanced fire control system, complete with an electro-optical sight, thermal imaging camera, and a laser range finder. Operators have the flexibility to choose between single or volley fire modes, launching one or two rockets with a rapid 0.2-second rate.
This latest development from the Serbian Defense Company Yugoimport signifies a significant leap in modern warfare technology, offering a blend of mobility, firepower, and versatility. The world will undoubtedly be watching closely as this state-of-the-art MLRS rolls out into the battlefield.
