Hyundai Rotem is actively responding to global market demands by offering various export versions of the K2 Black Panther Main Battle Tank (MBT). The 'K2EX' model, specifically designed for international export, is tailored to meet the diversified needs of customers around the world. It integrates advanced electronic systems and devices based on those developed for the original K2.

Key enhancements of the K2EX include an active protection system designed to intercept and neutralize incoming projectiles, thereby increasing the tank's survivability. It also features a battlefield situational awareness system that provides a 360° view, as well as a remotely controlled weapon system (RCWS) to enhance operational efficiency.

A notable innovation of the K2EX is a modification that allows the use of information-injected ammunition. This technology enables the crew to control the timing and characteristics of ammunition explosions, offering more flexibility in combat strategies.

The K2 Black Panther, South Korea's main battle tank, showcases advanced technology through its three completed production phases, with a fourth phase planned to fulfill the South Korean Army's requirement for 600 units. Initially developed in 1995, the K2 was officially deployed in 2016.

This tank is equipped with a 120mm smoothbore cannon that includes an automatic loading system, thereby reducing the crew needed to three and enabling a firing rate of up to 10 rounds per minute with the capability to maintain fire for approximately three minutes. Its ammunition arsenal includes domestically produced tungsten APFSDS kinetic energy penetrators and multipurpose HEAT chemical rounds.

Additional armaments include a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and a 12.7mm K-6 heavy machine gun, enhancing its ability to engage infantry and lightly armored targets. The defense of the K2 is strengthened by composite armor and an Active Defense System incorporating explosive reactive armor blocks, increasing its resistance to various threats. It is also equipped with a Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and utilizes Visual and Infrared Screening Smoke (VIRSS) grenades for defense.

The tank's mobility is powered by a 1,500-horsepower engine, enabling a maximum road speed of 70 km/h and an off-road speed of 48 km/h. Its In-arm Suspension Unit (ISU) system allows for independent control of each bogie, optimizing firing positions and navigation over challenging terrains.

The combat effectiveness of the K2 is supported by an advanced fire control system (FCS), millimeter-band radar, a laser rangefinder, and a crosswind sensor. The crew's safety and operational effectiveness are further enhanced by day/night and thermal vision capabilities, a collective nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection system, an automatic fire suppression system, and atmospheric sensors. These systems collectively protect the crew in diverse and hazardous conditions.
