According
to Fars News Agency, an SRN6 hovercraft, an anti-surface AB212 helicopter,
two ASW SH-3D helicopters and a Fokker F27 maritime patrol aircraft
were delivered to the Iranian Navy on December 1st during a ceremony
held in the presence of Iranian Army Commander Major General Ataollah
Salehi in Bandar Abbas port city in Southern Iran. All these equipment
were existing ones that went through an overhaul process. Future naval
defense projects were also unveiled. |
Iran's Navy unveiled three new home-made combat, simulator and radar
systems. The sea-based 'Samen' surface fire control system is capable
of tracking surface and air targets and can trace 40 surface and 1 air
targets simultaneously.
Also, a simulator system for divers' exit from Midget submarines, which
can also be used for exercising the Navy personnel's emergency exit,
was unveiled in the ceremony.
The last military equipment which was unveiled by the Iranian Navy was
the S and X navigation radar project which is capable of being used
in a network and can use data fusion.
It also can send information and data of the target, including direction,
speed and distance, and connect to different navigation aid systems
at the same time.
Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi
imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992,
Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles
and fighter planes. |
