India wants 20 Remotely Manned Fast Interceptor Craft from local shipyards.

According to information published by the Indian government on May 3, 2023, the Ministry of Defence intends to procure 20 Remotely Manned Fast Interceptor Crafts Indigenous (RMFIC-I) for the Indian Navy.

The RMFIC-I should be capable of being manned by a single operator from a single workstation either onboard or a remote station ashore, with a lifesaving capacity of 14 personnel. The crew may comprise two personnel, a primary and alternate operator, with additional personnel allowed to embark as per mission requirements.

The RMFIC-I should have a displacement of 17 tons, with a draught not exceeding 1 m and a length between 13 to 17 m. It should have a maximum speed of not less than 45 knots at environmental conditions and be capable of running at slow speeds.

The engines should be capable of running at a minimum 33% load while patrolling in the harbor at low speeds. The economical speed should be more than 15 knots, while the sustained speed should be more than 45 knots.

The RMFIC-I should be able to operate up to a distance of 40 nm from the coast and have an endurance of not less than 200 nm at a speed of 15 knots with 25% fuel remaining onboard as reserve. It should be seaworthy up to Sea State 4 and able to patrol up to Sea State 3.
