Terma is eager to publicize its crucial involvement in the comprehensive upgrade of these corvettes spearheaded by Umoe and Kongsberg. This upgrade's primary objective is to prolong the vessels' operational life through the integration of modern systems and equipment.

The cornerstone of this update is the new combat management system (CMS), poised to bolster the corvettes' operational abilities. Alongside this crucial enhancement, Terma will provide SCANTER 6000 radars, an integral part of the update.

These radars are globally recognized for their exceptional performance, offering simultaneous detection of small targets, guidance for helicopters, and detection of large and small targets at both near and far range. Moreover, they have proven to maintain their impressive performance against non-cooperative targets even in severe weather conditions.

Terma is proud to reveal that the SCANTER 6000 radars passed a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) last week. These tests have further confirmed the radars' resilience and reliability, guaranteeing their smooth incorporation into the refurbished corvettes.

The SCANTER 6000 radar system is already employed by various naval forces around the globe, including those of Denmark, the USA, France, Germany, and the UAE.

Its established reliability and excellent performance make it an ideal fit for the Skjold-class corvettes, significantly boosting their operational capabilities and situational awareness.

About the Skjold-class corvette

The Skjold-class corvette has a full load displacement of 274 tonnes. It measures 47.5 m (155.8 ft) in length, with a length of 44.3 m (145 ft) when on cushion. The ship has a beam, or width, of 13.5 m (44 ft), and a draught of 1.0 m (3.3 ft).

These vessels are powered by a COGAG (Combined Gas and Gas) propulsion system by Renk, consisting of 2 Pratt & Whitney ST18M and 2 Pratt & Whitney ST40M gas turbines that provide a total power of 12,170 kilowatts.

The ship's speed varies with sea conditions. In sea state 3, it can achieve speeds of up to 45 knots (83 km/h). In sea state 5, it can maintain speeds greater than 25 knots (46 km/h), and in calm sea conditions, it can achieve speeds greater than 60 knots (110 km/h) - although the exact figure remains classified.
