These advanced systems will ensure precise and uninterrupted navigation data for the Type 31 frigates, independent of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) availability or any external interferences. This guarantees accurate situational awareness for the crews, even in challenging environments such as GNSS spoofing or jamming.
Exail’s navigation solutions are already in use on various Royal Navy vessels, including Astute-class nuclear attack submarines, Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, Duke-class frigates, and Vanguard-class ballistic missile submarines. The inclusion of Marins INS in the Type 31 frigates further solidifies Exail's position as a key navigation partner for the Royal Navy.
About the product
Marins inertial navigation systems (INS), developed by iXblue, are advanced navigation solutions designed to meet the demands of naval operations. The Marins Series, which includes models like the Marins M3, M5, M7, M8, M9, and M11, are built on fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) technology. This technology ensures precise measurement of heading, roll, pitch, speed, and position, making these systems highly suitable for both submarines and surface vessels operating in GNSS-denied environments.
The use of FOG technology in these systems allows for superior performance, as it avoids the mechanical wear and noise associated with traditional gyroscopic systems. This technology also makes the systems resilient to external disruptions such as shocks, extreme temperatures, and magnetic fields, which is crucial for military applications.
