The manufacturer of the main armament for the T-14 main battle tank on the Armata commonized chassis increased its durability through applying a protective coating to its bore, Russian defense contractor Uralvagonzavod told TASS.

"The Armata tank is equipped with the 125-mm 2A82-1M main gun from the Plant No. 9 company. The gun features enhanced firepower, which has necessitated… advanced auto-fastening technologies and a protective bore coating to ensure the strength and durability required," the press office said.

Uralvagonzavod emphasized that the solutions applied to the main armament has increased its accuracy. In addition, the Armata’s gun is housed by the unmanned fighting compartment separated from the crew seated in a fully enclosed armored compartment, the press office added.

The cutting-edge T-14 tank on the Armata platform was unveiled to the public in May 2015. The sophisticated combat vehicle has all-digital controls. According to the manufacturer, its armor is immune to all current tank-fired projectiles and antitank missiles, and some say the tank is furnished with a new-generation explosive reactive armor. The Armata will undergo its operational testing and evaluation in 2016.

Plant No. 9 makes and overhauls 125-mm tank guns and 152-mm Akatsiya and Msta-SM self-propelled howitzers.
