Russian Northern fleet Arctic brigade trains on A-1 snow vehicles


Scouts of the Arctic motorized rifle brigade of the Northern fleet are training roadstead actions on snow vehicles. The first drills were held at the formation range near Alakurtti settlement, the fleet said. "The military trained towed skiing by snow vehicles. They studied tactical combat techniques and trained fire in motion," it said. The main attention was paid to skiing skills, cohesion in moving behind the snow vehicle and combat deployment. Drivers of A-1 snow vehicles trained cross-country and deep-snow driving.

The A-1 Military Oversnow Vehicles are produced by the Russian Mechanics Company. They were for the first time displayed at Army-2015 forum. The snow vehicle is based on Taiga Patrol 551 SVT. It has a two-stroke two-cylinder engine of 65 HP. The 55-liter tank provides a maximum range of 250 km. The maximum speed is 90 km/h, or 40 km/h with sledges. It has fixtures for skis, a grenade launcher, AK-74 and SVD rifles. The vehicle has a control panel with expanded functions. It weighs 430 kg and has a 300kg payload, not including a maximum 300kg loaded trailer. The average unit footprint pressure is 0.06 kg/cm².
