Description

In September 2013, at the DSEI defense exhibition in London (UK), the Finnish Company Patria launched its new 8x8 armored vehicle concept AMV XP built on experience and verified solutions based on the Patria AMV, which has been the unrivaled market leader of modern 8x8 armored vehicles for the last decade with nearly 1,400 units contracted, selected by seven different nations and combat-proven in a real mission environment. A spacious interior and high payload carrying capability provide a platform for future customer variants, allowing the simultaneous integration of weapon systems, protection, and crew equipment. Vehicles' electrical power generation is measured to match the future requirements for C4I, Battlefield Management, and Situational Awareness Systems. Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) together with the vehicle’s digital backbone ensure 21st-century soldiers have the best possible platform to meet their objectives in every theatre of operation now and in the future. The new vehicle concept at DSEI is the first concept vehicle and its extensive testing will be continued after the exhibition. A prototype of the AMV XP was delivered to Slovakia in 2017 and the country has ordered 81 of these armored vehicles for delivery by 2024. According to a press release published on October 5, 2020, the 8x8 armored combat vehicle, AMV XP manufactured by the Finnish company Patria has been selected for the second phase of the Bulgarian vehicle acquisition program based on a tender phase. According to information published by the trafficnews.jp website on December 15, 2021, in December 2021, Japan Ground Forces conducted field tests with the Finnish-made AMV XP designed and manufactured by the company Patria. In August 2022, Slovakia and Finland, along with Patria, signed a government-to-government agreement for the procurement of 76 Patria 8×8 AMV XP Armoured Modular Vehicles for the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. On December 9, 2022, the Japanese Ministry of Defense announced the selection of the Patria AMV XP to replace its fleet of Type-89 8x8 armored personnel carriers.

Technical Data

Armament
At DSEI 2013, the Patria AMV XP 8x8 armored vehicle concept was fitted with a Saab Trackfire remote weapon station (RWS), but the vehicle can incorporate a variety of weapons up to 120 mm including the Patria Nemo 120 mm mortar system. The weapon station Trackfire is armed with a 25x59mm dual-feed chain gun coupled to a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. The auxiliary armament includes a Venom V-10 non-lethal tube launch munitions system. Consisting of the Fire Control Panel (FCP), Control Handle (CH) and display, the gunner interface is simple to operate, ergonomic, and multi-functional. The menu structure has maintained a flat hierarchy to ensure that the operator can retain a visual perspective of the gunner display whilst having access to all primary functionality of the system. For maximum crew protection, the Trackfire RWS operations can be performed from below armor or deck, including ammunition feed from below armor. A low ammunition warning can be coupled with a fire inhibit signal to ensure that a new belt of ammunition can be linked to the existing belt.
