50N6A Multi-Function Mobile Tracking Radar S-350.
The 50N6A is the MFMTR Multi-Function Mobile Tracking Radar, which is used with the Vityaz 50R6 ground-to-air defense missile system. This radar provides a highly mobile 3D search and acquisition capability but is limited in low-level coverage footprint by its antenna elevation.

Description
The 50N6A is the Multi-Function Mobile Tracking Radar (MFMTR) employed with the Vityaz 50R6 (S-350E) ground-to-air defense missile system. Developed by Almaz-Antey, this radar provides a highly mobile, electronically scanned 3D search, tracking, and missile engagement capability. While it excels in rapid acquisition and fire-control tasks, its low-altitude coverage is inherently constrained by the fixed elevation angle of its phased array antenna. The 50N6A is a high power-aperture, coherent X-band active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, engineered to detect and track aerodynamic and ballistic targets within a 90-degree azimuth sector. Serial production commenced in 2015, with the radar entering operational service alongside the S-350 system in 2020. Open-source intelligence confirms that by early 2023, the radar had been deployed in combat operations during the Russia–Ukraine war, primarily to shield critical infrastructure from UAVs and cruise missile threats. Units have been geolocated in Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts, marking the system’s first use in a high-intensity conflict zone. Notably, on January 1, 2026, Ukrainian forces confirmed that operators from the Asgard Battalion of the 412th Nemesis Unmanned Systems Brigade successfully struck and destroyed a 50N6A multifunction radar, representing the first confirmed destruction of this radar variant in active combat.

Technical Data
-
Radar
The X-band radar of the 50N6A is mounted at the rear of the truck chassis. In combat position, three stabilizers are deployed on each side of the chassis.
-
Design and protection
The 50N6A radar is mounted on a BAZ-6909 8x8 high-mobility wheeled chassis, which ensures excellent off-road capability and reliable performance in diverse terrains and conditions. This mobile platform allows for rapid deployment and repositioning as needed. The radar employs phased array technology, providing rapid electronic beam steering for precise target tracking and missile guidance. The crew operates the radar from a protected cabin integrated into the vehicle chassis. This cabin is armored, offering protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, ensuring the safety of the operators in hostile environments. The radar system itself is situated on the vehicle's rear, allowing for a clear and unobstructed field of view essential for its operational effectiveness.
-
Mobility
The 50N6A MFMTR Multi-Function Mobile Tracking Radar uses a 6x6 truck chassis BAZ-69092-12. This a three axle chassis with a wheel arrangement of 6x6, a three-seat cab and a behind-the-cab engine. The engine is the YaMZ-8424.10-033 multi-fuel four-stroke eight cylinder V-type liquid cooled diesel with a power of 450 hp. This truck can run at a maximum speed of 80 km/h with a maximum road range of 1,000 km.

Combat Equipment
The roof-mounted MFMTR X-band phased array radar of the fire-control system can detect and track up to 40 targets simultaneously and engage eight of them typically using two missiles per target to ensure a high-kill probability. The MSAM is capable of engaging aircraft, helicopters, UAVs and tactical ballistic missile target sets. The MFMTR radar provides a Simultaneous target detection, multiple target tracking and the missile up-link. The radar contains a Rotating phased-array antenna (60 rpm) with Full electronic scanning, with large deflection (+/- 45° in elevation and bearing).
