"Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, Orlando, Florida, has been awarded a $24,314,870 firm-fixed-price contract for the F-16 A/B Block 15 training system. Contractor will provide required training system hardware, contractor logistics support, spares and software development," the US DoD said on its website.

The contract will be performed at Orlando, Florida, and is expected to be complete by April 20, 2021. This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales to Romania.

The Romanian Air Force's current fleet of nine F-16A/B is operated from Fetesti AFB by the 53rd Fighter Squadron.

Romania purchased 12 used F-16 fighter jets from Portugal for US$181 million in September 2013. The first six aircraft were delivered in late September 2016, followed by three more in December. The last three aircraft would be delivered in October 2017.

The country is actually hoping to procure more F-16s to replace the 26 remaining MiG-21 LanceRs still in service with the RoAF.
