Germany plans to send troops this year in Lithuania for military exercises.
Germany plans to send a company of equipped troops to attend military exercises in Lithuania this year, the Deputy Inspector of the German Army said here Tuesday. Lieutenant General Joerg Vollmer, the deputy inspector, paid a visit to Lithuania and met with Juozas Olekas, Lithuania's defense minister.

According to a press release from the Lithuanian Defense Ministry, Vollmer revealed that part of the company would be deployed in Lithuania from April to July to join international military exercise Iron Wolf with the rest of the company joining other exercises in July and November.

"This way, a total of 500 German military is expected to visit Lithuania this year," said the Defense Ministry.

Defense cooperation in military training, equipment and weaponry acquisitions between Lithuania and Germany started in 1994.

German soldiers attended international military exercise Iron Sword in Lithuania last year. German Air Forces have also conducted six air policing missions in the Baltic Air Space from the Zokniai air base in Lithuania.
