New Zealand to boost defence cooperation with Vietnam | |||
Deputy Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, on March 20, held talks with New Zealand’s Deputy Secretary of Defence during the official visit to New Zealand. At the talks, both sides reviewed the results of defence cooperation over the past time, especially in staff training, peacekeeping operations and maritime security. The two sides held that there has remained much potential to boost the bilateral defence ties, and agreed to expand cooperation in issues of mutual concern, including mine action.

The host also affirmed to strengthen collaboration with the guest on sharing experience and information in participating in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. In addition, they agreed that the two ministries would increase consultation at multilateral forums to share information, give support to each other, and strengthen cooperation relationship, contributing to ensuring regional peace, stability and security. On this occasion, the Vietnamese officer also conveyed the invitation of General Phung Quang Thanh, Vietnamese Minister of National Defence, to his NZ counterpart Gerry Brownlee for an official visit to Vietnam. |
