The induction of M117 Stryker ICVs in the Royal Thai Army indicates an important upgrade of the RTA’s land force combat means. With this delivery, Thailand has become the first country outside the U.S. to operate the Stryker. The RTA will be equipped with 60 Strykers and associated support, at a cost estimated to USD 175 million via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales mechanism. These ICVs will be assigned to a unit based at Chon Buri.

These 8x8 20-ton combat vehicles take an important place in the framework of the RTA’s modernization process and influence the army’s doctrine. The Stryker enables new capabilities in terms of reconnaissance and infantry transport, as well as survivability.
