The Rostec Corporation sent the required documents to the Russian Defense Ministry for bringing into service the Udav pistol, a report placed at the state corporation’s Internet site says. "By now the Defense Ministry has received all the documents required for putting the pistol into service," the report says. A source at the corporation pointed out that previously "the pistol passed the operation trials with the troops."

The Udav pistol took a total of five years to create. As Sergey Abramov, the Rostec industrial director noted, the pistol complex is completely ready for serial production. "The pistol demonstrated steady operation and high ballistic performance in different conditions, including extreme temperatures from minus 50 to plus 70 degrees, which makes it suitable for all services. Today, the Udav is fully prepared for serial production," the press release quotes Abramov as saying. In March 2016, the pistol passed preliminary tests, and, in December 2018, the acceptance tests.
The Udav pistol has been created by TsNIItochmash (Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering). It is 206 mm long, 145 mm high, 36 mm wide. The pistol is fairly light, weighing 780 g unloaded and 980 loaded. The Udav magazine capacity is 18 rounds of 9x21 mm calibre. These enable Udav to pierce a 4 mm armour plate at a distance of 50 meters.
