Russian Eastern Military District air defense units receive S-300V4 missile systems.
A new S-300V4 (NATO reporting name: SA-10 Grumble) air defense missile system has been delivered to Eastern Military District air defense units stationed in the Eastern Military District’s air defense forces received the S-300V4 system for the first time in the Jewish Autonomous Region located in Russia’s Far East, the Defense Ministry’s press office said.

"The servicemen familiarized themselves with the system and the operation of its units and mechanisms at the Kapustin Yar training range in the Astrakhan Region [in south Russia]," the press office said. The air defense units also practiced transferring the system from the travel to the combat mode and detecting, identifying and tracking targets.
The S-300V4 is an advanced highly-mobile air defense system with great antimissile potential. It can defend strategic facilities and troops against ballistic and aerodynamic threats.
The Russian Armed Forces ordered the S-300V4 air defense missile system in 2012. The first example was delivered in December 2014. Compared with previous-generation systems, the S-300V4’s coverage has increased two-to-threefold and its maximum range has been extended. This guarantees the interception of medium-range ballistic missile warheads. The S-300V4 is an upgraded version of the S-300VM missile system with better tactical capabilities owing to the latest computer and electronics advances and sophisticated components. The S-300V4 can destroy ballistic and aerodynamic threats within a range of 350 kilometers (217 miles).
