The containers are indigenously developed by the Indian Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) and Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) of Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

They can provide a payload of 50 kg and have been equipped to carry some spares, stores, weapons and ammunition, allowing to extend the duration of the deployment of the ships. These containers can be delivered up to 2,000 km away from the coast, undertaken from IL-38 aircraft.

The Sahayak containers get down helped by parachutes, avoiding it to explode which could be dangerous and could scatter all its embedded material. Moreover are these cylindrical containers floating, which make them easy to retrieve from the sea.
