Denmark already contributes to maritime security in the region and aims to increase its contribution with the deployment of a Danish frigate. The government plans to present a resolution proposal to the Folketing (Danish Parliament) in 2024.
The United States has established Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG) in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. OPG operates under the existing U.S.-led multinational maritime coalition, Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
Denmark currently contributes three staff officers to the CMF, including one staff officer to OPG. The government will propose to contribute a frigate to OPG, which could be deployed from late January.
