Kongsberg Discovery has a history of over 30 years in developing unmanned underwater vehicles, with around 100 HUGIN AUV systems deployed worldwide to various clients.
The HUGIN Endurance model is designed for long-duration missions, capable of autonomous operation over considerable distances. The HUGIN Superior model is noted for its capabilities in deep-water exploration and mapping.
Technical capabilities
The HUGIN Endurance is designed for long-distance missions, capable of covering up to 2200 km, a range that spans from New York City to Cuba. It can be equipped with a range of sensors, such as the HISAS1032 dual receiver and EM2040 dual receiver, which are used for detailed seabed mapping and inspection. Additionally, it supports environmental monitoring and can integrate third-party sensors for various applications.
For navigation, it uses the advanced Sunstone inertial navigation system from KONGSBERG, incorporating features like HISAS micronavigation, terrain-referenced navigation, and single transponder navigation, enabling it to operate autonomously without constant supervision.
The submarine is also equipped with surface awareness sensors to navigate safely among other marine traffic, particularly when it needs to communicate with the remote operating center. Furthermore, it is designed for remote operation, allowing for control and data integration through Kognifai and compatibility with other data platforms.
