This partnership aims to capitalize on global opportunities in the design and manufacture of advanced naval vessels. EDGE holds a 51% stake in the venture, which will handle non-NATO orders and strategic orders from selected NATO member countries.

Following the signing, the UAE Coast Guard Forces announced an order for 10 technologically advanced 51m Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), valued at €400 million. These P51MR Class OPVs are based on the Saettia class, known for their modularity, stability in rough seas, low radar signature, and operational flexibility.

About the Saettia class

These vessels are approximately 53.4 meters in length and 8.1 meters in breadth, with a full load displacement of 401 tons. They can reach speeds of up to 23 knots and have an operational range of 2,100 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 16 knots. The standard crew complement is 38 members.

The vessels can conduct maritime patrol operations in challenging sea conditions, up to Sea State 5, and withstand conditions up to Sea State 7.

Armament typically includes an Otobreda Marlin 30 mm cannon and two 12.7 mm machine guns. Some variants, such as the Saettia MK4, also feature advanced weapon systems like the Marlin WS (Modular Advanced Remotely-controlled Lightweight Weapon Station) with an optronic fire-control system.
