An air defense regiment of the Northern fleet armed with S-400 launchers went on combat duty in Novaya Zemlya, the fleet said.

The gala ceremony was held on Yuzhny Island of the archipelago. The commander reported the readiness of the personnel for the duty to Commander of the air defense division of the 45th air force and defense army of the Northern fleet Major-General Sergey Moskvichev, it said.

The air defense regiment was deployed in Novaya Zemlya and went on combat duty to defend the Arctic airspace in 2015. It was previously armed with S-300. The new S-400 considerably expand the controlled airspace.
