Description
The Kornet, Russian designation 9M133, NATO reporting name AT-14 Spriggan, export designation Kornet-E, is a Russian anti-tank missile (ATGM). The Kornet-E anti-tank missile is designed and manufactured by the Russian Company KBP Instrument Design Bureau. The Kornet-E is designed to defeat current and future ERA-equipped tanks, lightly armored vehicles, fortifications, and low-flying air targets in electronic and jamming environments at any time of day and night in any weather conditions. The Kornet-E system comprises combat assets, maintenance facilities, and training aids. The Kornet-E system is a powerful defense and assault weapon of motorized units of land forces. Kornet-E missiles do not require maintenance during their operations and storage. Test equipment is provided to keep the launcher and the thermal sight in serviceable condition. The training aids of the system include a field trainer and a computer-aided indoor trainer.

Missiles
The 9M133-1 missile with a tandem HEAT warhead can penetrate 1,000 to 1,200 mm of armor and defeat all modern and future tanks provided with add-on and built-in explosive reactive armor, as well as pierce reinforced concrete structures 3 to 3.5 m thick.
The 9M133F-1 missile with a high explosive thermobaric warhead has a large casualty radius of blast wave and high temperature of explosion products. It is intended to defeat extended soft-skinned and lightly armored targets and unsheltered and bunkered manpower.
The 9M133M-2 is a long-range variant of the Kornet with an improved tandem HEAT warhead, which has a maximum range of 8.0 km.
The 9M133FM-2 is a variant of the 9M133M-2 missile with a thermobaric warhead.
The 9M133FM-3 is a variant of the 9M133M-2 missile with a lighter HE-Frag warhead in exchange which has a maximum firing range of 10 km range. -
launcher unit
The Kornet-E system includes the 9P163-1 ground launcher with the 1P45-1 sight-tracker, highly precise mechanical drives and the launch mechanism, the 1PN79-1 thermal sight, and the missiles 9M133-1 and 9M133F-1 kept in launching transporting containers.
There is also the launcher 9P163-2 launcher designed to be mounted on a wheeled or tracked combat vehicle. The 9P163-2 launcher comprises a ring mount with four guided missiles,, a 1P45-1 sight-tracker, a 1PN79-1 thermal sight, an electronic module, and an operator’s station. A storage rack for five missiles is arranged separately. The principle of laser beam missile guidance allows mobile fire with the line of sight stabilized, which is implemented in the Kiver single-seat combat module and in the BMP-2. -
Features
The missile launcher is fitted with a thermal imaging system, to facilitate effective operations under low visibility, day and night. The Kornet-E system stands out owing to its high immunity to jamming of laser beam guidance channel of the missile under combat conditions.

Combat Use
The Kornet-E system allows the delivery of fire in the prone and kneeling positions from organized and deployed sites, as well as firing from the standing foxhole position. The Kornet-E system is easy to handle and does not require high qualifications of attending personnel. It can be readily mounted on various wheeled and tracked vehicles.
One of the Kornet-E system versions is an autonomous 9P163-2 launcher mounted on a light carrier and intended to equip mobile fire groups that can rapidly move, deliver fire attacks, and change positions. The Kornet missile is able to penetrate 1100-1300 mm of armor
