The AMX-10P is a French-made amphibious infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that was designed and produced by the French company GIAT Industries (now Nexter) in the 1970s. The development of the AMX-10P was driven by the need for a new IFV that could operate in amphibious and non-amphibious roles. The production of the vehicle began in 1972 and it was first introduced into service with the French Army in 1973 and has since been used by several other countries.

Description

The Guardian Xtreme is a 4x4 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicle produced and manufactured by the Company IAG (International Armored Group). This is an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) Vehicle which offers high-level protection against small arms firing and mine blasts of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). In September 2017, IAG officially launched the Guardian Xtreme at the DSEI defense exhibition in London, United Kingdom.

The Guardian Xtreme was specially designed to perform combat, tactical and surveillance missions and can quickly respond to remote area threats due to its high maneuverability. The IAG Guardian Xtreme APCs were successfully deployed in support of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, headed by UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). The IAG Guardian Xtreme APCs are supporting the operations of MALBATT 850 and were part of a ceremony headed by the Minister of Defense for Malaysia in June 2018.

The vehicle is fully certified to STANAG-4569 Level II (ballistic and blast certification), ensuring compliance with internationally recognized protection standards for armored vehicles operating in hostile environments.

Guardian Xtreme MRAP variants:

- Guardian Xtreme 4×4:  Primary production variant configured for troop transport, patrol, and convoy escort missions with a seating capacity of up to 10 personnel.
- Guardian Xtreme 6×6:
Extended version featuring increased payload and troop capacity, designed for more demanding operational deployments and mission-specific configurations.

Technical Data

  • Armament

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is configured to accept either a manually operated open-top turret or a remotely controlled weapon station mounted on the roof structure. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP supports the integration of machine guns up to 12.7 mm caliber, enabling effective suppressive fire during convoy escort, patrol, and combat support operations. Both weapon configurations allow full 360-degree engagement capability, enhancing the vehicle’s defensive and offensive flexibility in complex environments.

  • Design and protection

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP follows a standard MRAP layout with the engine positioned at the front, a protected crew section in the center, and a rear troop compartment. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP offers a maximum seating capacity of 10 personnel, with occupants seated on military-grade, blast-attenuation seats equipped with integrated gun ports and internal weapon racks, ensuring both survivability and combat readiness.

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP incorporates a V-shaped hull designed to deflect blast energy away from the crew compartment. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP provides ballistic protection rated at STANAG 4569 Level 2, ensuring resistance to small-arms fire, including 7.62×39 mm armor-piercing incendiary rounds fired at 30 meters. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP also provides blast protection rated at STANAG 4569 Level 2a and 2b, capable of withstanding the detonation of a 6 kg TNT equivalent charge under any wheel and beneath the center of the hull.

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP can be further enhanced with add-on armor kits to achieve STANAG Level III protection, extending coverage across the front, sides, rear, and roof. Additional protective elements on the Guardian Xtreme MRAP include bullet-resistant glass panels with integrated firing ports, external wire mesh protection for windows and lighting systems, reinforced armored doors with military-grade locking mechanisms, and a structurally reinforced front axle designed to sustain higher payload and stress loads during operations.

  • Mobility

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is based on a Ford F-550 Super Duty 4×4 chassis and is powered by a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine delivering approximately 330 horsepower and high torque output suitable for off-road conditions. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is also available with an alternative 7.3-liter V8 petrol engine producing higher horsepower output, depending on mission requirements and customer specifications.

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP utilizes an automatic transmission system, including modern TorqShift® configurations, to ensure smooth and reliable power delivery. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP can reach a maximum road speed of 110 km/h and has an operational range of up to 800 km.

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is equipped with a heavy-duty suspension system featuring front and rear solid axles with multi-link geometry, designed to maximize off-road mobility while maintaining on-road stability. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP also integrates run-flat tires with beadlock systems, allowing continued movement after tire puncture, and can be fitted with an optional semi-automatic tire inflation system to adapt tire pressure to varying terrain conditions.

  • Combat Equipment

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is equipped with a comprehensive suite of onboard systems designed to enhance situational awareness, survivability, and mission adaptability. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP includes a roof-mounted searchlight, a 360-degree surveillance camera system with internal display and digital video recording capability, and an automatic fire suppression system for the engine compartment.

The Guardian Xtreme MRAP is also fitted with auxiliary cooling fans and an upgraded 24V electrical system to support mission-specific equipment and extended operational use. The Guardian Xtreme MRAP can be equipped with thermal imaging surveillance camera systems for night operations, grenade launchers for increased firepower, blackout lighting for low-visibility tactical movement, and a wide range of additional mission kits tailored to military or law enforcement requirements.
