Armament
The Lazar 3 IFV version is fitted with a one-man turret armed with an M86 automatic 30mm cannon with double-feed mechanism coupled to one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The M86 30 mm cannon has been designed for the engagement of ground targets (manpower and lightly armored targets) and aerial targets (helicopters and low flying aircraft). Two banks of three or two smoke grenade dischargers are fitted on the roof the troops compartment at the rear part. The APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) version of the Lazar 3 is fitted with a remotely operated weapon station armed with a 7.62mm machine gun.
Design and protection
The layout of the Lazar 3 IFV is very similar to Lazar 2, with the driver and commander position located in the front left side of the hull with the engine on the right side. The vehicle can carry a total of 12 military personnel including commander, driver, gunner and 9 soldiers. There is one single door at the front left side of the hull with a single bulletproof window. The troop's compartment at the rear of the vehicle can accommodate 9 infantrymen with individual seats. Five small bulletproof windows with a firing port in the upper part are available on each side of the troop's compartment. The troops can enter or leave the vehicle via a hydraulic-operated ramp located at the rear of the hull which has two integral doors. It can be activated both from the driver’s compartment and the crew compartment. The Lazar 3 has highly sophisticated, modular ballistic protection. The hull is made of armored steel and can be fitted with a spall liner. The applied ballistic protection can be tailored to the specific needs of the user and allows for the application of additional state-of-the-art ballistic protection technologies throughout the vehicle service life. The vehicle floor has two levels of anti-mine protection. The Lazar 3 has a ballistic protection Level 3 STANAG 4569 against firing of small arms 7.62×51mm caliber AP (Amor-Piercing) at 30 meters and anti-mine protection levels 3a and 3b STANAG 4569, mine explosion pressure-activated under any wheel or track location (Level 3a), mine explosion under center (Level 3b). On request, the Lazar 3 IFV can be fitted with additional armor to increase ballistic protection all-around the hull to Level 4 STANAG 4569 against the firing of small arms 14.5×114mm AP / B32 at 200 meters. While, the front of the vehicle can be fitted with armor for ballistic protection Level 5 STANAG 4569, against firing of automatic cannon up to 25 mm APDS-T (M791) or TLB 073 at 500 m.
Mobility
The Lazar 3 IFV is motorized with a Cummins ISM500 developing 500 hp. the vehicle can run at a maximum speed of 110 km. The power train is accommodated in the front right side of the vehicle in a protected space completely separated from the crew. The central transfer case transmits the torque to all wheels that have independent suspension and provide for the vehicle’s high mobility. All the shafts provide power, while the first two steer the wheels. The Lazar 3 can negotiate gradients up to 60%, side slope of 30% fording depth of 1.6 m without preparation, and have a turning radius of 11.5 m. It can cross a trench of 2 m and climb a vertical obstacle of 0.55 m maximum.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the Lazar 3 IFV includes an air conditioning system, NBC protection system. In option, the vehicle can be fitted with an automatic firefighting system, intercom system, central tire inflation system, and video screens.
