On Sunday 26 August, The Daily Star reported that “nearly 200 elite SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) British troops are in or around Syria” looking for weapons of mass destruction in the country. British special forces, along with troops from France and the United States, are poised along the borders of Syria to secure and destroy the country’s arsenal of chemical weapons if the regime in Damascus collapses.

Britain and France have said they are not ruling out any options in Syria, including a military-enforced no-fly zone to protect thousands of civilians fleeing the escalating civil war. William Hague, Britain's foreign secretary, told a joint news conference in New York with Laurent Fabius, the French foreign minister, that a Turkish proposal for a safe zone would require military intervention.

ThalesRaytheonSystems has been awarded a $44.9 million contract by the U.S. Army to upgrade the Receiver Exciter (REX) in the Improved AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder radar. The enhanced REX is part of the U.S. Army's program to further improve the AN/TPQ-37's performance, maintainability and reliability, while extending the service life of these long-range counter-battery systems.

Japan has announced a series of initiatives to bolster the Self Defense Forces’ ability to respond to new and potential threats. The initiatives span from cyber to amphibious warfare and fill gaps in existing capability. Israel becomes one of the most top arms exporters in the world with $1.8 billion in 2011
 

According to a newly-released American report examining global arms' transfers, Israel is one of the top exporters of weapons, with sales worth 12.9 billion U.S. dollars between 2004 and 2011. The report, titled Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations, was written by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) at the Library of Congress, the Globes economic daily reported Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), a contract for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program’s Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase.
