Technical Data

Armament
For its self-protection, the Streit Group Typhoon 4x4 MRAP vehicle can be armed with a 7.62 or 12.7 mm machine gun mounted on a rotatable platform on the roof of the vehicle. The gunner can be protected by armor plates at 360°. As with all modern military vehicles, a lightweight remotely controlled weapons station can be mounted on the roof of the Typhoon armed with a 7.62 or 12.7mm machine or an automatic grenade launcher. With that type of weapon, the gunner can fire and reload under armor for both weapons while operating with the enemy, a capability that has proved advantageous during combat.
Design and protection
The Streit GroupTyphoon MRAP features a monocoque hull, which is V-shaped. The armor of the Typhoon consists of all welded ballistic grade steel construction. Opaque and transparent five-sided armoring of personnel compartment to protect 7,62 mm x 39 API BZ, 5,56 x 45 M193, 5,56 x 45 SS109 NATO,7,62 x 51 NATO Ball ammunition and tested to meet STANAG 4569 Level 2. The vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor to reach a protection Level 3 STANAG 459. The interior frame, constructed of ballistic grade steel, provides overlap and backup protection for the large-surface principal impact areas such as the doors and windows. It also reinforces the structural integrity of the support pillars and other areas that are crucial to maintaining vehicle safety in any circumstance, including rollover and ramming situations. Vehicle armoring has been constructed in such a way as to ensure that a projectile following a linear or angled path shall not enter the vehicle’s interior without contacting the armor material. In addition to this, the possibility of a projectile entering the vehicle’s interior due to a ricochet from the armor shall also be minimized. The Typhoon has a total of 3 doors: the driver’s front door, the commander’s front door, and the rear door for personnel access. Four hatches are mounted on the top of the hull. The latter is a hydraulically operated drop-down hinged door, which is specifically designed to ensure fast embarkation and disembarkation of personnel. Additionally, the rear door is fitted with an emergency exit hatch. Each side of the vehicle is equipped with four small bullet-proof windows. Driver and commander are seated at the front of the vehicle, each seat with special 5-point belts. At the rear of the vehicle, there are eight folding seats for personnel with no hard link to the floor and connected to the ceiling through the special energy-absorbing suspension. Internal space of personnel compartment is sufficient for evacuation of wounded personnel.
Mobility
The Streit Group Typhoon MRAP is motorized with a Cummins four-stroke turbocharged intercooled diesel engine, 6.7L, 6 cylinders developing 300hp coupled to an Allison Automatic gearbox with four stages forward and one reverse, neutral, and parking. The suspension system consists of semi-elliptical leaf springs and sway bars. The Typhoon can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km/hr. with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km. The vehicle can negotiate side slopes up to 30%, gradients up to 60 %, and cross water obstacles of 1.5m depth.
Combat Equipment
The Streit Group Typhoon MRAP features a 24V electrical system. There are eight dual-mode interior dome lamps installed: 6 in the personnel compartment and 2 in the commanders’ cabin. Dome lamps feature featuring special illumination mode when the light beam is not reaching the body glass of the vehicle thus preventing the violation of camouflage of the vehicle. The illumination level of the working zone of the interior in this mode is 5-7 lx. A self-recovery winch is mounted at the front of the vehicle. The Typhoon is equipped with an air filtration system, an independent heater, and air conditioner. The air filtration system is meant for the air supply of sealed vehicle cabins in the hostile surrounding atmosphere (containing biological hazards, smoke, combat chemicals, radioactive dust, etc.) and maintains excessive pressure inside the vehicle’s compartment. Two exhaust fans, controlled from a switch located in the driver compartment, have been mounted in the rear of the vehicle to provide additional heat dissipation from the interior, as well as easily remove any smoke and/or other airborne chemicals that may be present inside the operational area of the vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with an air conditioning system (output exceeds 4,200 kcal / hr.). A central tire inflation system is available on the Typhoon controlled from the cabin. In option, the Typhoon can be equipped with video surveillance and monitoring systems, additional lights, automatic and manual fire suppression system, telescopic mast, public address and siren system, radio communication equipment, GPS and tracking service, LED police light bar, blackout lighting compatible NATO STANAG-4381, and NATO type external jumper socket.
