At the London Counter Terror exhibition which was held on 24th and 25th April 2013, the Defence Company Streit Group has unveiled a new product in its range of armoured vehicle, the Cobra 4x4 APC Vehicle Borne Assault System (VBAS). The Streit Cobra 4x4 APC Vehicle Borne Assault System (VBAS), supplied from FDS (Force Development Services), is an intervention system to allow rapid access into buildings, aircraft, ships in port, public transport vehicles and over compound walls and fences. The VBAS is designed for a wide range of military, law enforcement and counter terror operations from a product range that has been developed for over 25 years. |
Equipment |
From the roof, users can operate a multi-level ladder that can be secured to the mounting tube assembly or the front of the assault ramp. The height adjustable assault ramp provides rapid access into buildings and aircraft up to three meters above ground level. Combined with a multi-level ladder the VBAS is capable of reaching up to 8.5 meters, which are the upper doors of a Boeing 747. The ladder can also be fitted with an aircraft gantry platform, which provides users a stable platform to operate from into aircraft at any height the system can achieve. The gantry is able to swivel catering for a variety of approach angles, allowing the driver of the vehicle not having to be too critical. It’s fitted with a cushion bar for resting against aircraft, which can be removed to reveal a set of wheels for rolling up or down the wall of a building. The assault ramp can be fitted with a fast roping system, enabling users to fast rope over compound walls and fences up to two meters high. This can significantly reduce the entry time needed to a target.

Design and protection |
The monocoque body, with optimal ballistic resistance and underbody blast protection provides protection firing of small arms and shell splinters. The vehicle body is made of ballistic steel with a maximum thickness of 6.5mm. The 3.7mm mild steel inner floor and the 6mm mild steel under body provide a protection against mine blast. In option, the Cobra can be upgraded with additional ceramic and composite add-on armour plates. To the front of the commander and driver is a large bulletproof window and in each side is a door with a bulletproof window. The vehicle is customizable with 3 or 5 doors. The rear part of the vehicle can carry four people. The roof of the vehicle is accessed via a rear access ladder, or additional side access ladders can be used.
