The Ukrainian Ground Forces are the land force component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They were formed from Soviet Ground Forces formations, units, and establishments, including three military districts (the Kyiv, Carpathian, and Odessa Military Districts), that were on Ukrainian soil when the Soviet Union collapsed. According to the Military Balance 2021, the Ukrainian army has a total of 145,000 active soldiers with 4 regional, HQ, 5 reconnaissance battalions, 4 tank brigades, 9 mechanized brigades, 2 mountain brigades, 4 motorized infantry brigades, 1 light infantry brigade, 1 surface-to-surface missile brigade, 5 artillery brigades, 1 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) brigades, 2 MLRS regiments, 1 Electronic Wzarfae Batallion, 1 Electronic Warfare Regiment, 2 Electronic Warfare companies, 1 CBRN regiment, 4 Signal Regiments, 3 maintenance regiments, 1 maintenance company, 4 aviation brigades, and four air defense regiments.
